18. My house (in downtown Toronto) was built in 1923 ...

It has all the charm of a house of the era - leaded glass windows, higher ceilings, thick wood moulding. It ALSO has all of the eccentricities, including doorknobs (the original crystal & brass type) that fall off the doors every spring, every winter, as soon as the weather changes!

It's been a work-in-progress for the twenty years I've had it. But it's been worth it. (Bought at $70,000, now valued at about $400,000).

My husband and I have done most of the work ourselves - so I know what you mean about learning as you go. I am now a master carpenter, and my mother-in-law gave me a power-saw one Christmas, and a nail-gun this Christmas (she knows what I LIKE)!

I'm also an avid decorator, so I'm constantly changing rooms around. I love antiques, especially Victoriana, Art Nouveau and Art Deco - all of which fit perfectly with the style of the house. The living room has been done to look pretty much like it would have when the house was built, including a 1930's stand-up radio, and a wind-up Victrola.

Well, good luck with all of your many projects - I'm sure we'll be running into each other again on the threads, just as we always seem to do!
