95. Causes for glee: Miller going nuts, and the Times losing money!
Miller's delusional muttering aside, she's partly right of course: alternatives to the MSM did do her in. And thank heavens for that!

Had it not been for the Net--and I mean not only bloggers, whose influence is overrated, but the millions of soapboxes and home forensic labs that are email, web sites, chat rooms and message boards like this one--we might still be fed Miller's PR work for Bushism and the Pentagon.

Instead, the genie is out of the bottle: truth, or at least the search for truths, has become far more popularly decentralized than it was twenty years ago. Newsroom layoffs prove it. Barring interventions by fascism (always possible), a large part of society isn't going back to the old hierarchical order of receiving "news" from on high, and a new generation is using the Net to sift through and produce their own competing narratives.

We can easily see why this trend so troubles elites, who traditionally have depended on the media to manufacture consent for their projects. From Washington down to high-priced shoe-polishers like Miller, a backlash is brewing. But for now, let us savor a small victory in one battle, at least. Miller is reduced to hysterics, and that's a start. ;-)
