News Being Censored

Do any of you remember, right after 9/11, when the networks were discussing whether or not it would be appropriate, in a post-911 world, for media outlets to participate in propaganda campaigns in consort the government? The discussion wasn’t limited to news media, but also had implications for Hollywood, etc. At least one of the networks even did some kind of poll. Remember?

I don’t remember the details, but I remember the implications as if it was yesterday because I know how things work. I know that they don’t discuss such things unless such things are already a done deal.

Today we saw Andrea Mitchell of NBC News reveal another done deal. Andrea slipped up by mentioning something that was only supposed to be discussed among the beautiful people. Before anything could be done about it, she put information in the record about a could-be plot by the executive branch of our federal government to spy on a representative of the U.S. media. And when they discovered what happened, the beautiful people, the ones who lurk behind the scenes at NBC, quickly altered the transcripts in an effort to live up the deal they had long since made with government.

It doesn’t matter whether or not the story is true – which it probably is. It doesn’t matter whether or not Mitchell simply failed to set a trap for her subject, James Risen. What matters is that we know, with absolute certainty, with irrefutable proof, that NBC did not want us to discuss what Andrea Mitchell said today.

Let’s discuss the hell out it. Let’s keep a thread – not this thread, but any thread or threads (like the one that’s there now) – pegged at the top of the greatest posts column. Let’s put all of our thoughts and theories out there.

Let’s let them know that we know. Let’s let them know that we know how things work at NBC. Let’s let them know that we no longer see NBC as any different from, or better than, Fox. Let’s let Brian Williams, Tim Russert, Stone Phillips, Jane Pauley, Katie Couric, and the rest of ‘em know that they are done. And let’s let everybody else in this country know that NBC stands for News Being Censored.
