The brave are rarely rewarded. In fact, they're often 'punished'.

Some people who have 'lead the way' (Conyers?) might be 'being pushed beyond his limits' and trusts that others will step in? to continue what he had the courage to begin/set in motion initially....

...those 'others', of course, are US.
