The Vindicator (1986)
Post-Terminator meets the Pre-Robocop, 25 September 2006

This movie is an evolutionary piece - from Terminator to Robocop .

Stan Winston did the SPFX !

In this film, a scientist working in a sinister robotics company with a really creepy boss(they always are) gets is killed by them in a horrible lab explosion and has his brain placed inside an indestructible robot body .

The rest of this movie goes on with a romance angle as this Cyborg/Man regains consciousness and wreaks havoc while trying to communicate with his wife, played by the gorgeous(back then in 1986) Terri Austin . (He tries to reconnect with his old life, like in that scene in RoboCop)

The rest of this movie is about breaking things, while trying to defeat the evil his evil boss from recapturing him for some ill-defined 'turn humans into cyborgs' project .

This film pays homage to previous movies like THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL - - as the cyborg breaks free like the giant robot Gort does .

Except for the 'Frankenstein Suite' designed by Stan Winston, this movie's production values are typically Canadian: SLEAZY ! !

Pam Grier stars in this film as an hired killer-commando, a cheap role of the likes she was doing so much of during the 80's .

As for a Sci-Fi Horror B movie, out of 4 Stars, this film ranks about a <3

Hash Horror from Canada, 2 September 2006

This vulgar vile movie is typical of Canadian exploitation: Comic Book, Horror, Sci-Fi, Dark Fantasy, Porn, Slasher - - -

They ripoff off The Matrix, Stephen King; Carrie, The Others, etc.

There is one bimbo that plays a cop who wears tight leather pants !

So much cheap CGI animation, this movie looks cartoonish .

Why did this dreck get release in theaters at all ? It should have gone straight to DVD

As typical in the Sci-Fi/Horror genre, we have the villainous Christians~ that is the Stephen King effect . .

Another example of Pop Culture as poison . . .

ALIENS in an underground cavern !, 20 August 2006

This movie features a lot of eye-candy - - Piper Pirabo being the yummiest :-)

In the scene where she is attacked and grappled by the flying monster, why doesn't the creature f@ck her ?

It was a man after all !

This male creature has not nailed some tail in thirty years and does not use this opportunity to slam dunk this chick . .

What is a monster good for if it does not kill the men and rape the women :-)

Beyond that, this is your usual sci-fi horror fair ......

The pseudo-science of evolution .

The nasty white male .

The attractive women scientist .

The exotic looking location(a plus).

The cast is a rainbow coalition(always).

- - Science Fiction may not be original, but it is always Politically Correct !

Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) (V)
The Idea has been done before !, 12 August 2006

The only reason to watch this film is to see Kelly Carlson from NIP/TUCK fame, completely nude and evil and hot-to-trot !(but then again, are not all sexually aggressive females wicked ?)

Beyond that, Ed Neumier has finally made the movie he wanted to make in the first place(based on an earlier script called: Bug Hunt) - - when he and producer Jon Davidson optioned the rights to the Heinlein books, and only used the title, not any of the story !

This film's plot has been done before, in a 1984 production(released in 1985) called: CREATURE, by Will Malone and starring the late Klaus Kinski ~ as a German mad-scientist(aren't they all !)

And that film was a superior movie to this cheapo dreck !

The Descent (2005)

Superior to its' predecessors, 10 August 2006

This is the best 'ALIEN in the underground cavern' movie ever !

The first film of this sub-genre, was not last year's: THE CAVE - - no, the first movie of this premise was 1984's WHAT WAITS BELOW, a film that Jim Cameron ripped from when he made THE ABYSS !

The best thing about this scary chick-flick is not the complete lack of male cast(all of the monsters, save one, are male apparently), no . It is the complete lack of pseudo-scientific explanations that you find predominating in Science Fiction .

To be sure, they give an brief explanation, without the techno-jargon !

Good performances all around, and credible too ! No 'I am woman hear me roar' propaganda, that you always seem to find in these 'Alienesque' films ~ they just do what they have to do to survive, no femminazi sermons at all ! !

Not for children nor the squeamish, though to be sure, I have seen sci-fi horror films far more gory and gruesome than this ! Despite what the commercial promoting this movie boasted about- - the 'splatter' is not excessive(considering the content material) nor is it gratuitous .

I highly recommend to all over the age of 17

Starship Troopers (1997)
Soldiers of the future battle really big bugs !, 25 July 2006

*** This comment may contain spoilers ***

This movie has essentially nothing to do with the Sci-Fi classic by Robert Heinlein .

In the book the 'Bugs' are intelligent and have spacecraft and weapons of their own .

In the book, the Bugs take prisoners(which explains why they just don't nuke these bug infested planets)

In this film the Power Suits are out, to hard to realize, even with the enormous budget of this film ~ 90 million dollars .

No talking smart dogs, the book's K-9 Corp !

In the novel, Dina Meyer's character Dizzy Flores, is a man who gets killed early the book .

The book's main character, Jonny Rico, is revealed to be Philipino, in the movie, he is a white boy ~

Johny Rico's father is not killed in the novel, he survives to join the military himself .

Also, the film vaguely alludes to the cause of this war- - in the book, the author is indirect- but it boils down to a battle for cosmic real estate, 'living space' . .

Finally, the movie has no mention of the other alien race, the 'Skinnies' - - living them out kind of make this movie a little like ALIENS = a sterile universe . . . .

Very little of the philosophical discourse of the book is in this movie, which is 'the cause' for the novel - a tome that has much to say about American society that is strikingly prophetic(the novel was penned in 1959) about our country at the end of the 20th century .

Robert Heinlein was indeed a visionary ! (story has it he invented the Water Bed)

I saw this movie partly because I like Dina Meyer . Denise Richards is better remembered in this movie, but I think Dina is obviously a much better actress .

Her death scene is the only deep emotional scene in this whole movie with its' mostly cardboard characters .

Dina Meyer should have gotten some kind of award for that scene alone . . . .

This film is Jon Stewart's type of movie !, 24 July 2006

*** This comment may contain spoilers ***

This movie is vulgar, lame , unfunny, and insulting to Mexicans !

Definitely a film for those who hold that loudmouth Jon Stewart is something other than a tacky, banal, second-rate comedienne .

This film with Jack Black as the main star is so unfunny it makes me want to puke . Black should not re-enter Mexico, for when they catch wind of this film, they'll want to lynch him for this movie's stereotyping . .

The ghost of El Santo must be turning in his grave right now . For those unfamiliar with such, he was a Mexican Wrestler turned into a sort of B movie actor/superhero . He played himself !

This flick is a sort of parody of that character ~ only the real El Santo films were ten times more enjoyable than this !

The only nice thing about this flick is the shots of the Mexican countryside, which are quite scenic, if you like ranch country . .

Open House (1987)
Sadistic Serial Murder Flick with Slasher Film Cheesiness !, 21 July 2006

*** This comment may contain spoilers ***

Best thing I can say about this porno-horror film is: boobies boobies boobies !

Beyond that, this film is made by some Hindu/Indian guy with some background in porn films or such .

Plot: Talk-Show host and girlfriend are stalked by a psychopath who is angry over the plight of the homeless and takes it out on, you guessed it, beautiful real-estate agent ladies ! (films like these are why the slasher films of the 80's got a rep for misogyny)

This film is not really a Slasher, but has the same sort of implausibilities and stereotypes: the dumb-ass cops, the villain is an old white male, and the women are busty babes .

If you like porno-horror, this is your movie, otherwise stay away . (Adrienne fans will get to see her sagging breasts for a second or two)

Blood Shack (1971)
Grade Z slasher film, with one good bimbo, in the desert, 12 July 2006

*** This comment may contain spoilers ***

This movie by Ray Dennis Steckler, who is a sort of an Ed Wood on the road type, added about < 19 minutes of Rodeo footage to this flick in order to get a theatrical release . So runtime, including the credits is ~ 74 minutes .

Beyond that, this is your typical stalk 'n' slasher film . Psycho in a black hood runs around stabbing people . First victim: the snotty teenage blond girl(how typical), and that is the only good scene in the entire movie . More killings entail: the boyfriend/hubby who comes looking, the dumb-ass sheriff - get whacked fairly quickly . Laurel Spring, who plays Connie, is a cute 70's girl !

The rest of this movie is blah blah blah, irrelevant .

This film came out in 71, which means it came out before 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and a full seven years before 'Halloween' .

Shouldn't that give this horror flick some points for being first ?

Re-released on video tape in the early 1980's to cash in on the slasher film craze . .
