What is your “favorite” Bush/Corporate Media exchange?

By “favorite” I mean the one exchange between Shrub and the Media Whores that has you ranting and seething with anger each time you think of it, or see or hear it on archived media.

For me it’s the question asked of Bush during one of the debates with Kerry. Bush was asked to explain his opposition against importing prescription drugs into the US. At that time, the debate over whether or not to import less-costly prescription drugs was raging in the public forum. Many Americans were paying through the nose for their prescriptions when they could get them much cheaper from foreign suppliers. Canada was mentioned as one source for less-costly drugs and we read almost daily about how senior citizens were making trips into Canada to buy cheaper prescriptions. This issue was very important to me personally since I now must take 5 prescription drugs a day due to a major medical emergency that occurred two years earlier. So when Bush was asked this question, I listened...

The debate moderator asked Bush to explain his stance against importing less-costly prescription drugs into the United States. Bush had this incredulous look on his face in having to answer such a question and responded with something like, “To protect the American people *smirk*smirk*. To protect them from (inferior) drugs from third-world countries that could be harmful to them…” or some such nonsense.

Anyway, I waited for the moderator to follow-up with “So you believe Canada is a third-world country? What's wrong with prescription drugs made in Canada? Aren’t you really protecting the big pharma companies—your supporters—by restricting access to less-expensive imported drugs?” But that follow-up never came. Bush was allowed to sidestep the issue by offering a less-than-satisfactory answer that was tantamount to a lie, and no one called him on it.

Every time I think about this, I just fume with anger. Oh, yeah, and also when I go monthly to the drug store for my prescriptions.
