It's getting pretty hard to have hope for humans these days. I'd like to be all philosophical and remind everyone of the message in Shakespeare's The Tempest. Maybe I should stress that the ME's problems are damned complicated and there are no easy solutions - no band-aids. I was even contemplating a bit about how we would all band together if we attacked by aliens.

But then I read a thread like this and all I can hear is the voice of George Carlin:

"We're going away. Pack your shit, folks. We're going away. And we won't leave much of a trace, either. Thank God for that. Maybe a little styrofoam. Maybe. A little styrofoam. The planet'll be here and we'll be long gone. Just another failed mutation. Just another closed-end biological mistake. An evolutionary cul-de-sac. The planet'll shake us off like a bad case of fleas. A surface nuisance."
