17. The more you resist something , the more you empower it

The more you focus on what you don't want, the more you get it. This is why we need a charismatic candidate. People have to really want him, imagine him, long for him, more than they just want the end of the other. Perhaps we were so full of hate for Bush and his many horrible actions that we managed to create more of him. Kerry wasn't a strong enough pull for most people. Except for odd moments, he wasn't really inspiring. He didn't paint a picture of the world we want to have, the world he would create, a world we could put our energy into and create with our thoughts. The country really has no vision of a future other than fighting terrorism and insurgency, a kind of negative vision. And, of course, the more we focus on what we don't want (terrorism and insurgency) the more we get of them. We are really stuck in a negative loop. We have forgotten what the future felt like at the end of Clinton, when we felt we were walking into the 21st Century with all kinds of possiblities ahead of us. Whatever candidate we get, needs to paint that picture for us, not just appeal to greed (low taxes, ownership) and fear. There is a progressive vision waiting to be claimed.

This article is super important. I have been saying this for a while. We lost not because of moral values or policies or even national security, but because they were in control of the conversation and framed things exactly how they wanted. I am hoping this guy will become our Rove.
