That being the case, I think we should support any "all but 'marriage'" legislation. Make them put their cards on the table.

The polls have consistently said that the 'marriage' thing is the sticking point - that they support full equal rights, but don't want the word 'marriage' attached to those rights. By supporting the "all but 'marriage'" legislation we give them the chance to back up their words with action - if they back it, and it passes, it's a win for LGBT; if they refuse to back it, it exposes their hypocrisy making it a win for LGBT by demolishing that argument and clearing the air.

Just as the right has created a lose/lose scenario for the Democrats on healthcare reform, we can create a lose/lose scenario for the religiously insane on marriage equality.
