IMPORTANT: Maine lib needs info to fight new election fraud law

Here's the deal.

Republicans in Maine are attempting to repeal the law that allows citizens to register on the day of the election, claiming that same-day registration allows voter fraud.

The person battling this law wrote me:

........
I called our town clerk: no fraud ever related to same day voter and no issues with executing responsibility.

I have called the Legislative Librarians in WY, WI, NH, ID and MN and asked these questions: ID is reporting it was repub sponsored, no fraud, and was enacted in 94. no other responses.

1. When was same day voter reg enacted in their state?
2. Which party sponsored the legislation?
3. Any substantiated cases of election fraud to same day voter reg?

I also called a NYT reporter, left a voicemail and asked if he knew any contact who could answer: Any substantiated election fraud to same day reg?
...........

Republicans are fighting for this in the LTTE. Any authoritative information would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Letters to the editor are arguing this issue.
