Clinton is still popular, even though he was disbarred, and we were looking for politicians who remained popular (not necessarily elected or re-elected.) Hell, I recall an opinion poll before the election that put him ahead of John Kerry in electability.
I like Barry as an example of a pol who was re-elected after being convicted. If I find out that his opponents in the races after his conviction were white, then I will immediately concede your point. I can't find information to support or refute that, though, so I have to stand pat.
