A Bush impeachment and conviction would be possible if his approval ratings fell significantly, but unfortunately we will all be hurting if that happens. The ugly national social mood that would generate an impeachment environment could be created by events like a stock market crash, a severe economic recession or a forced retreat from Iraq. These very bad events could produce revulsion by the populace and the Republican Congress to such an extent that the Plame, Halliburton, National Guard, Stockgate or other scandals might be used to get rid of the guy. Unfortunately Cheney then becomes President.
