Perry's leading Texas to be No. 1 in all the wrong things

Rick Perry, while running for governor, stated Texas has no budget deficit. This was a lie, and he knew it.

Why can’t we raise taxes? The poor would not be affected. The middle class can handle it, and the wealthy can afford it. The Republicans have a history of protecting the wealthy, Big Oil and other companies.

California, Illinois and Georgia face budget shortfalls as bad as Texas. They plan to raise taxes to avoid cuts. India, China and many others are increasing aid to education. Texas is already at the bottom on money spent for education.

Maybe Perry wants us to be at the very bottom. Perry is correct, when he states Texas was the leader in this country. We are No. 1 in uninsured children, air pollution and incarceration rates. In addition, we intend to cut aid to autistic children, blind children, families with disabled children and mental health services.

Are we the envy of other states?
