30. Other way around
Actually, it was the other way around. From the Mother Jones article:

http://motherjones.com/news/update/2006/02/hackett_drops_out.html

In late November, Hackett got a call from Sen. Harry Reid. “I hear there’s a photo of you mistreating bodies in Iraq. Is it true?” demanded the Senate minority leader. “No sir,” replied Hackett.

The basis for my belief that it was Democrat driven was talking to a senior leader of the Ohio Democratic Party who spelled the whole story out to me including graphic details about the pictures.

I first started hearing about it at get togethers in Columbus last year. I can't get more specific than that, but I honestly can't remember. It sounded so insane and it was so third hand that I discounted it as crazy noise from some pro-DeWine partisan. In hindsight I wish I would have been more agressive about this story. I didn't start hearing the name of who was doing it until very recently.

I'm not going to lead on this one. If I do it the story instantly passes to the right wing machine and we're in full out damage control mode. The leadership needs to step up and control this story and punish the guilty. They can instigate a full out investigation. They can bring out the truth one way of another so that everyone can get beyond that.
