27. 125,000 new voters in Dallas County
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 10:21 AM by rainbow4321
in addition to Dallas County: Collin County = 23,000 new voters registered since the primaries. Tarraant County: 40,000 since primaries. Travis County officials expecting 85% voter turnout (historically bluest county in Texas). and I wouldn't put too much faith in the sentence that the repubs are doing drives. IF they are, and it is a true "non partisan" appearance--the kind that get you in front of places like stores, businesses, mass transit centers, etc...they are really registering Obama voters. Cuz all the "nonpartisan" ones that I've done around here, most all people filling out their registration card let pro-Obama comments slip at one point or another while they are at our table.

Dallas County election officials expect about 125,000 new voters will be added to the rolls this presidential year, with a net increase of 25,000 from the 2004 presidential elections.

The influx of new voters could sway several county races, particularly those in swing districts that could tilt either way. The increase in total registered votes is good news to local Democrats. For the March primaries, Democrats outvoted Republicans by 10-1.

Since January, 85,000 residents have registered to vote, most of them lured to the process by the historic Democratic primary race between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Voter registration efforts by the Obama campaign and local Republicans have continued, and Mr. Sherbet says another 40,000 new voters or more could be added to the rolls by Monday's deadline to register for the Nov. 4 election.
