After all, America traditionally named its states north and south: i.e., Carolina, Dakota. But here's West Virginia, just not fitting the mold. And is there an East Virginia? No, just Virginia!

Of course, the, it became West Virginia because those upstate counties refused to attempt to leave the Union with the rest of the original Virginia. So, WV was loyal when disloyal Virginia became a centerpiece of the Confederacy. Of course, they COULD have named it "North Virginia," since WV stayed with the North versus the South. ;-)

And the people of WV have been those most hurt by Big Coal.

So, however they vote, today or in November, perhaps we should have a little respect for WV. In fact, if the Dem Party retains its respect for WV, that might even influence how they vote in November.
