People need to think before they attempt to strategize like the OP is doing.

The same people mouthing off about this are likely to (a) condemn the
anti-war movement in August / Sept if they DO take to the conventions
(victory for Rush) and (b) fail to have said jack shit when some of us
pointed out Rush and Glenn Beck should be fired for the same sins as
Imus, without any of this pointless elaboration and brinksman-ship,
attempting to redefine civil liberties in order to go after one man
when folks were unwilling to apply the Imus standard and said so.
