I won't go into why I support Obama over Clinton right now. It seems trivial at the moment.

A good friend of mine who supported Hillary Clinton passed away this fine morning after a long battle with throat cancer. He was a stunning individual. Someone who travelled the ends of the Earth and did what he could with his skills as a legal genius (and decent mandolin player), this person had fine way of bringing humor into the most impossible scenarios where it would be easy to just be a negative force in the situation.

I had seen dozens of Dead shows, clumsily surfed Hawaii pipelines, played endless hours on jam music under the Pacific Ocean beach moonlight with dervishing sunburnt friends abound and had some of the best times in a blurry extended visit in Amsterdam that I can never fully remember with this fellow. I looked at my high school yearbook and saw how he has signed his page saying he'd buy a painting one day. He bought three.

He was for Hillary. I'm for Obama. We never let that get in the way of having a decent conversation and friendship.

My point to all this is that no matter who we may support in this current race, if we were ever to actually meet each other in real person, chances are we would laugh and have 95% in common with one another.

If you feel the desire, in lieu of anything else, send whatever you want to:
HUP Dept. of Otorhinolaryngology, Attn: Phil Mesisca, 3400 Spruce St., Ravdin Bldg., 5th Floor, Suite B, Philadelphia, PA 19104-4206

I'm going to go walk my dog on a frozen lake nearby and say a prayer for my friend. The stars will be out tonight.
