This has me completely bummed. My Mom just called and told me that Phelps has been a Democrat since the 60's. Of course I didn't believe it since he doesn't hold a single Democratic ideal. Sure enough, Wiki says he's a registered Democrat and supported Gore in 2000.

Now I know that he's nowhere near left of center so he's certainly not a Liberal, and I know anyone can register for whatever political party they wish, but in the end my Repuke mother can call me up and make me feel really icky by associating a sub-human like Phelps with the Democratic party. She wouldn't budge when I told her that if you're homophobic you're not a Democrat. She did agree that he's sub-human, but she still maintained that he's a Dem.

What else can I say? Do I lose the argument by default because Phelps is such an asshole that he registered with a political party that would never have him as a member? I'm extremely frustrated if you couldn't tell.
