41. Why not here, and now?
I guess in some ways this gets at the heart of whether one believes that *somewhere* within the American juggernaut there lies a set of principals that are truly the best hope for governing people in the most peaceful and fair ways possible. I *did* believe that at one point, blindly. I want to believe it more and more but races like this one and the last mid-terms are making it increasingly more difficult. I don't know that it is the greatest hope for human-kind so much anymore. My father believes this and I have a hard time seeing eye-to-eye with him.

The larger question becomes if your belief that somewhere in the mess of America in 2004 the greatest hope for peace and prosperity still lie is being shaken with every election that we have how does one justify staying and fighting? If one's core beliefs are shaken one can no longer fight for them with any convincing principals or conviction. It all becomes shallow motions. It's defeatist, yes. I admit it. I feel defeated; exhausted, scared, lonely, devastated, afraid, angry, confused, marginalized, etc. etc. etc.
