5. Nope. And what happened to Ed Murrow, among many other examples, proves that...
media manipulation by conservatives in television has been going on since the very get-go. And anyone who knows about the LA Times' union-busting activities (including murder) in the teens and twenties understands that the major print media, such as TIME, Inc., have long been on the side of the fascists.

Even Nixon was protected by the press for as long as they could cover for him. It was only Bob Woodward (but check out his pre-reportorial backgound) and Bernstein who bucked the trend, for reasons still largely unknown. Had it been up to every media outlet except the now-fascist Washington Post, Nixon would have easily survived Watergate, just as Reagan easily survived Iran-Contra and Bush I and 2 have easily survived scandals and malfeasance that would have impeached, convicted and removed any Democrat.

The press hated FDR, Truman, (although it envied JFK and feared LBJ) Carter, Dukakis, both Clintons, Gore, Kerry, and every single other Democrat who rises to prominence. Meanwhile, one cannot be too mean-spirited a right-winger to not get one's own radio or television program or magazine or newspaper column.

And it was ever thus. It's just that there was a brief time, after Watergate, when people, even liberals, THOUGHT (hoped) that the media was doing a responsible job. But that brief period was the exception, not the rule, and the conservatives vowed to never allow a repeat of it. It was THEN they began trying to silence all 'bad' news by buying all the media outlets, a feat that now a fait accompli.
