Steve Schmidt, a senior adviser to Sen. John McCain, accused Sen. Barack Obama of swooping in and buying up advertising time that McCain released.

As part of suspending his campaign to deal with the financial crisis, McCain stopped all political advertising. "Sen. Obama, in a really a political predatory fashion, swooped in to try to buy that commercial space, taking advantage of that across the country," Schmidt said.

Tommy Vietor, a spokesman for Obama, said Schmidt's charges are "absolutely not true."

"The McCain campaign is doing what it always does - ranting at the press and playing politics first," Vietor said, adding that "we have not purchased any other ads, our ads have not increased."
