That's what I think is most interesting about this rumor. Could be a Rovian move. Designed to make the Clinton fans more determined to support her. Like "HOW DARE the Obama campaign reject her?" Or, even -- "How dare the Obama team make up a rumor that she would beg for the VP nomination! We'll never vote for him ever!"
