'The Pew poll was conducted March 19-22. It involved telephone interviews with 1,503 adults, including 618 Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters.'
With a sample of 1,503, minus the "includ(ed) 618 Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters", splitting this "Democratic-leaning" component of the sample in half, which is fair...that leaves a thudding sample of 1,194 respondents that weren't even straight-up Democrats.
This poll is seriously flawed, as such, race baited gibberish. But it doesn't surprise me that so many here at DU are taking as gospel.
Too many pollsters lend their database to whomever is paying the their services. That is not to cast aspersion upon the polling firm, or the data collected. But it is to suggest that clients often walk in with their sample, and in many cases, their preferred results already in hand.
It's all in the LOQ, opening/closing modules, skip patterns, response options; and the polling firm lends their otherwise good offices. Pew Research included, Zogby included, etc...
