Iowans are pretty proud of their state. If anything, saying you are from Illinois is not exactly something that many Iowans would smile with glee about.
Political preference due to bordering-state provincialism would account for probably .04% when it all gets said and done.
However, Barack Obama does understand and discuss rural issues with Illinois constituents. There's a lot of agriculture and other similar industries that are common with both states and the midwest in general.
