Reply #19: For Edwards or Obama, Webb may not have enough of a track record

I agree that Webb fits almost any ticket (he could fit Clinton's but might have a problem staying on a tight script with her - I don't know that their styles would mesh). However I think both Edwards and Obama could use more of an established political pro to balence them - sort of like how Bentson added depth (not enough obviously) for Dukakis.

One think Webb clearly has going for him is that he would have absolutely no problem taking on the attack dog function of a VP candidate. I wish we had someone like him up against Cheney last time.

One thing he has going against him is we need his seat to stay Democratic. I don't know if the Virginia Democratic Party has a deep enough bench at this point to win a special election for Webb's seat if it opened up.
