6. The point of impeaching Gonzales
is to open the door to investigating the White House.

Bush claims executive privilege over information sought by the committee. If the executive privilege claim gets to court, Congress will need to show need for the information to trump Bush's privilege claim. Impeachment provides the need for information. If the members of Congress are thinking what I'm thinking, they'll never move Gonzales' impeachment beyond the inquiry stage.

Impeaching Gonzales would also stir up media attention. Before Bush can be impeached, a large majority of the public must believe that Bush has placed himself above the law and his removal is the only choice left. The public must get the message that by refusing to comply with subpoenas, Bush has put himself above the law.

If Congress keeps investigating Bush and working to throw his henchmen in jail for contempt, eventually Bush will make a move that is so insane everybody will agree that he has to go.

These things take time.

I don't know why you attacked the people who initiated the Gonzales impeachment. They are on our side. It seems like the more somebody is on our side, the more you attack them.
