The Repugs are 100% pure political animals. They do not respond to policy, or to anything else outside the political sphere. In order to influence them it has to be purely political pressures.

A big loss in November will up the ante. Right now I don't see a lot of movement but as the election approaches we may see many Repugs jumping ship. Then, we'll know for sure that we're going to win big.

But that's precisely the only kind of pressure to which they'll respond. If the international situation goes to Hell in a handbasket--I mean further into Hell--we may see a completely new political environment by the time November rolls around. I suspect that an attack on Iran might be very, very bad for everybody, but might certainly could go bad politically for the Repugs.

If the Dems have good luck with House hearings we very well may see things going so far south for the Repugs that a resignation could be in Chimp's future. But I feel strongly that they would have to think that it's a political necessity for that to occur.

On the other hand, if the Repugs retain control, through hook or crook, or through stupidity of the electorate, or through feckless Dems, Chimp will never leave office until his term is over. If we survive his incompetence, that is.
