3. I love reading and hearing the primary sources

A few college courses in Medieval Studies by the incredible Kevin Roddy http://medieval.ucdavis.edu/resume.html at UC Davis taught me that primary sources are one of the best way to get a true sense of a time and place.
I found that the People's History of the United States had so many of these primary sources: letters speeches, and other texts written contemporaneously, and was very refreshing to see history told from people engaged in a struggle of survival against the predatory forces of the day. Much has changed, and yet much remains the same!
