We've got a 600 billion dollar government deficit. We have no surplus. It's all being borrowed...with interest. If we keep this up, foreign investors will question whether they should continue to hold reserves of US dollars when they see the government that represents us cannot even pay the fucking tab. They will only loan us so much as a noose to hang ourselves.
