I think that must be what it all boils down to. Every hardcore right-winger I've ever known seems to be completely lacking in empathy. Liberals usually can't stand to see suffering, which of course is what molestation is all about: the domination of the weak and the infliction of suffering on the helpless. If Rick Deckard put the Voight-Kampff test on neoconservatives, they would all have to be "retired" as replicants. (Semi-obscure and gratuitous Blade Runner reference.)

I don't know where that lack of empathy comes from in the right-wing, but it's there. Maybe it goes back to that "authoritian (and not nurturing) parent" thing. It's like right-wingers live their lives based on wholly on fear and not on love.
