2. Interesting match up
On the one hand, they share something in common--both oppose Bush on the war.

On the other hand, they are at opposite ends on another area--the culture wars. While I don't agree with much of what Buchanan says (other than opposing the Iraq war), I did find it interesting even prior to the election when Buchanan spoke of the culture wars. While the moral values vote was over emphasized for a point after the electon, it was still a factor, and Buchanan was talking about it before everyone else did.

Buchanan, of course, is on the conservative end, alligning with the religious right. Dean has taken heat for being considered secular (which should not be a bad thing, but here in Bush World it is considered to be bad.)

A Buchanan-Dean debate presumably would get away from Iraq, the issue Dean is perhaps most identified with, but should be interesting on the culture wars front.
