I have noticed that and have pointed out a number of times the inexplicable relationship between so called progressives and the fringe right wing.

I explain it in this way. I believe that the political spectrum is best defined by a circle, like a clock rather than a line. At noon are the true centrists, moving clockwise ideology get increasingly more conservative and moving counterclockwise they get increasingly more progressive. At 6:00 the two fringes meet and it get difficult to tell what direction they came from.
