9. Woman sought in her son's shooting death (NC)
"Caldwell County sheriff's investigators searched Friday for a woman who they say shot her 11-year-old son to death and tried to kill her teenage daughter.
The Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for the arrest of Janet Melinda Hall, 36, near Granite Falls, on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
A witness saw a woman believed to be Hall driving a white Pontiac Grand Prix at Grace Chapel Road and Falls Avenue on Thursday afternoon, near Hall's home, Capt. J.L. Stafford said. The Pontiac hit the witness' car and the driver left the accident.
Hall's husband, Jim Hall, came home Thursday about 3:15 p.m. and found his 16-year-old daughter, Ashley, in a bathroom of the family's Poplar View Lane house, Stafford said. She had been shot three times in the chest, but was conscious. He then found the body of his son, Eric, on the floor of the master bedroom. It appeared that Eric had been shot once in the abdomen and once in the back of the neck."
