These trial balloons of "US guns going to Mexico as an excuse to curtail US gun rights" has been going on for at least a year now.
Now that it is coming to light that many of these guns were allowed to go to Mexico, it would not surprise me in the slightest to find out that this was all a carefully crafted plan all along.
There's just not that much need for lawful firearm enforcement in this country, as the vast majority of firearm owners are law-abiding. So instead they help create a new export problem that needs solving.
