A Kenner business owner shot and killed a would-be robber and wounded one of the alleged thief's two accomplices during a tussle around 9 p.m. Friday, outside his check-cashing store in the 3200 block of Williams Boulevard.

The second alleged assailant was taken to University Hospital and is expected to a be booked with armed robbery, according to the Kenner Police Department.

The third alleged robber remains on the loose. Authorities did not immediately have a detailed description of the man but said the two suspects who were shot had identification cards from Honduras.

One of the men produced a revolver, struck the owner in the head with it, then grabbed the man's backpack and pushed him into a nearby alley, according to a news release issued Saturday morning by Detective Shaun Watson.

The owner dropped his backpack, retrieved from it his own weapon and shot the would-be robber, who died on the scene, Watson said.
