U.S. casualties number 248

As of Friday, 248 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to military officials.

The British government has reported 43 deaths.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 112 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to military figures.

There were no deaths reported by the U.S. military on Friday

Latest identifications released by the Defense Department:


Army 1st Lt. Leif E. Nott, 24, Cheyenne, Wyo.; died July 30 in Belaruz, Iraq, of wounds received from hostile fire; assigned to A Troop, 1st Battalion, 10th Cavalry, Fort Hood, Texas.
