Dean to Top $10 Million for Quarter: Democratic Candidate Might Forgo Public Financing.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A50101-2003Aug26.html?

With Dean now considering following Bush’s path to buying the nomination and forego public financing, the democratic primary is changing character.

The PollingReport, White House 2004, General Election page show the Democrat’s increasing chances in next years election. With this improved climate, it becomes increasingly clear that the democrats needs to focus on both the democratic nomination, and even more important on the general election.

http://www.pollingreport.com/wh04gen.htm

The Newsweek Poll conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates. Aug. 21-22, 2003. N=854 registered voters nationwide. MoE ± 4, asked:
"In general, would you like to see George W. Bush reelected to another term as president, or not?"
8/21-22; yes 44%, no 49%, & don’t know 7%
7/24-25; yes 49%, no 43%, & don’ know 8%

Likewise, the Zogby America Poll. Aug. 16-19, 2003. N=1,019 likely voters nationwide. MoE ± 3.2, asked:
"Do you think President Bush deserves to be reelected or do you think it is time for someone new?"
8/16-19; deserves reelection 45%, someone new 48%, not sure 8%
7/16-17; deserves reelection 46%, someone new 47%, not sure 6%

On the same PollingReport page are polls, from July, matching the individual democrats against Bush, with Kerry performing the best, with Gephardt and Lieberman trailing and Dean being the last of the four (polls from Aug. not posted)

With Bush and Dean now trying to buy the election, Kerry is the Democrats best choice to present a clear choice on the power of money in politics.
