Experience matters. Find someone in the same age group, for starters. Older players want something different than younger players. It's not an issue of knowledge or experiece or anything else -- though those are important, experienced players generally have just been raising kids and paying bills so long that our outlook is often different, and our stories are different.

And, no offense to the OP, but skip online PNP until you've TRIED real life PNP. MUDs and MMORPGs are fun, but they ain't even CLOSE to realizing what RPGing can be. It's the difference between a game and reality.

The interaction is just so amazing. Amazing. Especially if your persist until you're all on the same page.

The only thing I like about White WOlf is their instance that a game is really more of an interactive story; it changed the whole genre.

I haven't had the time for PnP in a couple of years, but everything else feels like masturbation.
