Reply #20: I'm losing an unstable roommate tomorrow,

I got fed up with her using me... She was a friend, former co-worker. She is trying to finish off her degree, about ten years after she started. I had a couple spare rooms and decided to give her a break while she was going to school. $200 a month for 2 bedrooms, her own bathroom, and a 10x10 storage room in the basement. She had free utilities, free cable, free DSL internet, free laundry.

She got mad when I moved my answering machine and phone to my room from the living room after I had several people say, "Didn't you get my message?" That was about four months in. I should have booted her then.

What ended it was when I came home 2 weeks ago to find a stain from either her dog (110 lbs rott-lab mix) or her cats on the living room rug. She had cleaned the chunks and then sprayed cleaner on it "to let it soak" and then decided to take a nap. I tried talking to her later about it, but she was on her cell phone. Then she went out for the night, leaving a soaked paper towel on the stain.

I wrote her a note, telling her to clean it NOW and while she was at it, to get rid of the three bags of month and a half old, used cat litter she left sitting in the basement. She decided that my being upset about her disregard for my property made me an ass. I told her that she needed to find a place where her behavior was acceptable.

What really has me torqued right now is her attidude that I have mistreated her in some respect. I don't know how she could stand my abuse of saving her $600 plus a month for the last 16 months. THe beer I'm drinking right now, plus the Bendryl for my allergies is helping, but I don't know how I'm going to make it through tomorrow.
