The people, while very nice, seem to be trapped in the mind-set of "this is the way we've always done it, if it was good enough for our grandparents, it's good enough for us".

The young people do leave, in huge numbers, and Pittsburgh (Allegheny County) has the second oldest population in the country (second only to Miami-Dade, I believe). So yes, we're very old.

We need fresh new blood, and another renaissance, similiar to what we had in the 70's, in order to bring some vitality to the region. There is so much to offer here, we need to make the best use of the resources.
