My gawd, did you take a poll on this or something? In any case, those are mighty strange grounds on which defend someone.
Also, I'm prepared to bet that any annoyance with the capital Ls is more likely just a matter of an affectation that did not entirely succeed in inspiring universal affection, and nothing more. After all, what "lack" needing compensation might this L business have demonstrated? A slight difficulty with the shift key?
