nasty cow-irker rant, feel free to ignore

I may have to resort to ugliness. My cell mate is on vacation. Her temp replacement is a vapid, annoying woman. This is the exchange we just had, after receiving a global email from the library -- a frantic plea for the return of certain reference volumes:

She: The library is always emailing about things they are missing!

I: Yes, that's because people take things without checking them out.

She: But they should have some system where people check things out.

I: (:eyes:) Um, they do, but people take things without checking them out.

She: Oohhhhhh.... (as if the concept had never occurred to her)

Someone help me.

I can't ignore her kindly. There's this constant mindless chit-chat -- in the same vein as the above. "This firm has lots of babies! Almost every month a baby!" (Over 1,000 employees....) I try so hard to be nice to everyone but if there's one thing I can't stand it's constant mindless chit-chat.
