6. No brawling today
My F-I-L decided he felt good enough to cook a small turkey, so we came over and brought a pecan pie with us.

Backstory: His bladder cancer came back (just in time for Christmas!) and he's been taking chemo and radiation, so as late as Tuesday he was saying he wanted fried chicken for Turkey Day. I dare you to find a chicken store open on Thanksgiving (I sure don't begrudge those poor kids a day off, though; thank goodness he changed his mind).

So we're here at their house watching football and digesting our meal. I just updated and ran his virus software and defragged his computer.

Mrs. Dittie is in the Florida room with her mom and Isabel, who is mom's caregiver. Mom has late-stage dementia, though it was my gift today that she recognized me (she has failed to do so in recent visits).

My recent diabetes diagnosis had me wondering what I might be able to eat; no worries, because I had some turkey breast and mixed vegetables of the stir-fry variety (we boiled them instead). No starches, no gravies, no bread, no problem.

I splurged and had a couple of forkfuls of the pecan pie and a taste of the Blue Bell vanilla acting as a la mode.

Though my in-laws are Cuban and have voted GOP ever since they arrived here in '62 -- their generation never forgave the Democratic Party because Kennedy abandoned the rebels at the Bay of Pigs -- my F-I-L was gracious enough to let his daughter vote a straight Democratic ticket on the mail-in ballot for her mother earlier this month.

A nice, quiet day. I'm thankful for that (and a few things more).
