I did not go into debt soley because my mom worked for the university. At the time, the university covered tuition for all employees, spouses, and their offspring. We had to pay fees, books, lodging ourselves. Most people commuted, as I did 2 of the 3 years I was there. I don't know if they do that now. I somehow don't think so. My folks were none too pleased that I had decided to go out-of-state originally.
I think sociology majors do most of their coursework at the Lakeshore campus. The Water Tower campus is mostly business-related, and probably the law school. The WT campus is not scenic like the main campus, but it's right in downtown Chicago, which ain't such a bad place to be IMO.
