There's not much worse than an animal being killed for food and then not being used for that purpose. I certainly wouldn't have assumed sarcasm even if you hadn't included the disclaimer. Just don't over cook it - that makes it chewy. Curiously, the opposite is true with eggplant - it becomes slimy.
Shit. That made me think of the scene from "Dances With Wolves" where they find all the skinned bison.
