He's just living where he always has and feels entitled to live there the way he sees fit because it's his home. The parents can either let him continue to live as he chooses or face him like an adult and explain what's acceptable behavior as a guest in their home, because that's what a wage-earning adult who isn't contributing to expenses is -- a guest. If he wants to set the rules for his own space he can negotiate that as part of his rent negotiation.
