unusable or unsafe, or potentially damaging to tracks. They wheels are changed out at hundreds of locations across the country and are returned to shops via rail or truck. At the repair shops the wheels can be replaced on the axles or can be resurfaced on a giant lathe that cuts both wheels simultaneously.
