Animals receiving bad handling on the kill floor secrete adrenaline, which causes meat quality to fall, which costs the slaughter facility money.

Don't take my word for it. Google "Temple Grandin" (who, BTW, is one of the most fascinating and inspiring individuals on the planet -- she overcame autism to become a major player in the slaughter industry and a professor at Colorado State).
