58. I still think you guys don't know what you are talking about.
The arrogant people you see, if you are seeing them, are most likely not typical, and not native to Chicago or the area.

My two girls live on the North Side. Last fall, we went to see "Wicked." When we were riding the El back to her apartment, a bunch of UIC students got on with us. They were loudmouthed little boys. My daughter recognized them as kids from the East, who come to Chicago to go to school. She said there is a large group of them, who, for some reason, decide to go to school at UIC. She sees them in some of the bars.

Anyway, these bigmouths were saying that there was no good music in Chicago and there never had been. I laughed at them, and asked them if they knew anything about Chicago's blues tradition. That drew a lot of laughs and agreement from some of the other passengers. Of course the idiots did not know anything about the blues.

As far as being a playground, I live in Western Illinois, in a very rural area. We have quite a few campgrounds and other types of places that attract the Chicago suburbanite tourists, too. Jobs are scarce here. We welcome their dollars. Actually, their dollars are far more welcome than some of the other things they want to do here. Some of them want to use us as a landfill, whether we like it or not. Others want to build their McMansions anywhere they please, without regard to zoning, water resources or the availability of services.

Getting back to true-blue Cubs fans: I don't see arrogance. I see fans who are overjoyed, because they so seldom have anything to cheer about.
